Marking almost two years since the last launch of a full update to Siemens’ automation and drive task software – the TIA Portal (Totally Integrated Automation Portal) – Siemens have surprised the market with an immediate launch of their newest upgrade, TIA Portal V16.
With the last full version of TIA Portal releasing at the very end of 2017 (and the lighter upgrade TIA Portal V15.1 launching in mid-2018), the time was right for an overhaul which promises to improve workplace efficiency, and advance Siemens’ mission of process digitalisation.
One of the most notable changes with the launch of TIA Portal V16 is the rebuild of the Multiuser Server seen in V15.1, which is now known as the TIA Project Server. Whilst retaining and improving the functionality of multi-user engineering and commissioning, TIA Project Server now enables exclusive engineering. This allows users to work inside their own exclusive local session before transferring their changes to the server project. Users also have access to the project history of their work, allowing previous versions to be restored.
TIA Portal V16 also brings with it a host of improvements to the SIMATIC Energy Suite, including intelligent load management, and generation of screens with SiVArc, significantly reducing the engineering workload through automatic screen generation for all energy products. Other updates introduced in TIA Portal V16 also include new language options such as Japanese, Korean and Russian, and integration with the recently revealed SIMATIC WinCC Unified platform.
TIA Portal V16 is available as a digital download now, with additional features scheduled for delivery in May 2020. Current users of TIA Portal V15 and V15.1 with valid SUS contracts in place will now be able to upgrade to TIA Portal V16 for free.
